We have all needed help at one point...
We understand how emotionally distressing it may be when it comes to giving up your pet for adoption.
Before you surrender your pet, consider the following:
- Spaying/Neutering your Pet.
- Evaluating Life Changes.
- Training.
All of these can provide a simple fix that may result in you not having to surrender your pet.
The Surrender Process
All surrenders are processed on an appointment-only basis. We do not accept same day drop offs, strays nor lost/found animals.
What types of pets does West End take?
We only take in dogs and cats at this time.
Note: We do not accept any strays, abandoned, community, lost or found animals.
Why is this?
Unfortunately, our shelter is not set up to handle the capacity of taking strays. As a result, we serve as a no-kill alternative for pet owners that can surrender their pets knowing that it won’t be euthanized in a couple of days.

Is there a fee?
Yes. The fee is dependent on the individual pet.
The shelter does not have a veterinarian on staff, which means any pet missing routine medical services must receive them before being placed for adoption. The placement fee is determined based on the services that have or have not been completed, as well as the cost of providing those services through our veterinary partner.

We understand the fear of giving a pet to the “pound”. Shelters such as the Inland Valley Humane Society have an initiative to not euthanize healthy and adoptable pets.

I have already surrendered my pet, what’s next?
Thank you for trusting us to care for your pet until it finds it’s new forever home!
All pets will remain in our care until they are adopted. Pets who do not get adopted will live with us for the rest of their life. We do not foster pets because we make a commitment to each and every pet to see it find it’s forever home.
Why isn’t my pet online?
If your pet is not on the website, it means that it has not been deemed ready for adoption. Please call our front office for more information.
Can I check on my pet?
You may call, text or email us to check-in on your pet. We do not allow visits. This is because when your pets sees you but does not go home with you, it makes them depressed and the transition to shelter life becomes harder.
We understand that seeing your pet is very important, so, we can send pictures or videos of your pet (at your request) as a form of an update!
Lastly, you can donate your pet’s beds, toys and treats to help them feel more at home.
Can I know when my pet gets adopted?
Yes, at the counter let our staff know that you’d like to be called when your pet is adopted! Although we cannot give your information to the new owners, we can still let you know that they went to a new loving home.
